Snow Phone Gets Full Touch Screen
Gadgets| Comments Off
We had a really hard time interpreting what the source article was trying to say due to the weird and cryptic language used, but here goes nothing. Extra points for effort, but when it comes to accuracy (apart from the specifications, of course), do give us some leeway. Here’s the Snow full touch screen cell phone that will come with the following specifications :-
- 3″ touch screen display at 240 x 400 resolution
- Video and audio playback
- Integrated FM radio
- microSD memory card slot
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Camera (unknown megapixel count) that records video
It measures a pocket friendly 110mm x 55mm x 17mm and won’t weigh you down at 125 grams. It does look as though it comes with a built-in TV tuner though, but we have no idea on what bandwidth this handset works on.

Westinghouse SK-32H570D Has DVD Player
Gadgets| Comments Off
Convergence has now arrived in TVs for the living room, and this time round it is the Westinghouse SK-32H570D that comes with an integrated DVD player - sorry folks, this is a far cry compared to Allio’s technological wonder which we covered a couple of days ago.Apart from the mentioned DVD player, features of the SK-32H570D include :-
- Two HDMI inputs
- ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner with HD programming support
- Supports 720p and 1080i resolutions
- 1366 x 768 pixel display
- 178 degrees viewing angle
- 6.5ms response time (bah!)
- 1,200:1 contrast ratio
At least the automatic brightness adjustment makes it a wee bit more appealing. Can’t really argue with the $579 price tag for a 32″ LCD TV though. Hopefully the upconverting algorithm works fine with most DVDs.

EeeRotate Program Gets You Disoriented
Gadgets| Comments Off
You know how most notebooks have the option to show the display in either portrait or landscape modes? Well, you can now do that with the Eee PC 700 as well, turning it into an impromptu e-book reader. After all, the classic Eee PC 700 is small and lightweight enough to qualify as one. The EeeRotate software enables you to do so, and is compatible with all Windows XP-powered Eee PCs - too bad for those who opted for Linux. Once installed, all you need to do is perform the following :-
- Ctrl + Alt + Right: rotate screen and touchpad by 270 degrees
- Ctrl+Alt+Up: back to normal Ctrl + Alt + Up: back to normal
Word has it EeeRotate even functions with the Lenovo IdeaPad S10.
Logitech’s diNovo gets right with the Mac community and thus, the Lord
Gadgets| Comments Offby Thomas Ricker, posted Nov 11th 2008 at 6:30AM
Do you see them? Command and option keys instead of the Windows and alt keys. That’s right, Logitech is doing the Mac community another solid with the introduction of its wireless diNovo Keyboard for Mac users. Exactly like its $100 PC version with 3-year battery only better ’cause it’s for Macs… right?

Kairen Projector X Pro920M
Gadgets| Comments Off
Kairen will begin to sell its Projector X Pro920M in Japan from the middle of January 2009 onwards, and this ultra-compact mini projector will come with the following :-
- 25″ images from 1m
- 10 lumens brightness
- 100:1 contrast ratio
- 1W mono audio
- 640 x 480 resolution
Doesn’t sound like much, but it is in line with other pico projectors out there. Interestingly enough, this $400 Projector X Pro920M can also be used for rear projection. No idea if it will be internationalized though.
New Enterprise pic finally hits the Net …
Gadgets| Comments Off

It is perhaps the coolest gadget in the universe after the lightsaber. It’s the Starship Enterprise. And the new reboot of the popular Paramount science fiction series is getting its flagship ride “pimped” for JJ Abrams vision of what Starfleet looks like. The new Enterprise looks a lot like the old from both the series and the movies, and Abrams says he did it that way deliberately.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Abrams plan was to Abrams create a new Enterprise design by fusing original TV series Enterprise and the movie franchise Enterprise. The result is a super cool starship that looks like it stopped by the Federation speed shop on the way to the Neutral Zone.
“If you’re going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change,” said Abrams. “The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you’re going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?”
The result is a ship built for speed that is as deadly as it is sleek. And it better be. Star Trek fans are the most demanding in the world and so the wisdom of keeping the design of Kirk’s starship is as smart as it is realistic. And with today’s visual effects so sophisticated, you can bet that the photon torpedos and phasers that come out of that puppy are going to be awesome.
Star Trek warps to theaters May 8, 2009.

Panasonic confirms Sanyo takeover
Gadgets| Comments Off
Panasonic is already a sizable company, but they are going to get that little bit bigger with the confirmed takeover of Sanyo. Sanyo have been struggling recently, and it’s probably not a coincidence that their downturn coincides with the economic crisis that we are facing. Nevertheless, they are still worth a substantial $18.5 billion which will boost Panasonic’s value to around $107.8 billion, making it one of the biggest consumer electronics companies.
The reason behind this is that this takeover will give Panasonic access to two key technologies in the shape of solar panels and batteries which will help them greatly in their own hand-held electronic products, in fact, Sanyo is the market leader in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries. They will also acquire a company specializing in portable gadgets which generates $4 billion per annum in revenue.
This is the first major buy-out in the crowded Japanese market; although, considering the way the economy is going, it probably will not be the last. Having said that, many companies have adamantly said that they will do everything possible to avoid being taken over: Pioneer is an example. Who knows what will happen regarding companies like Sony and Toshiba, as they may either conserve their valuable money, or choose to mop up the struggling companies to make their empire larger to keep up with Panasonic.
Although this is not 100% definite, it is very likely which could prove disastrous for European and American companies as the Japanese companies grow and grow, meaning they may be able to out muscle the western companies out of the market. It may also be bad news for current Sanyo customers, as it is likely that their customer service may be in a mess for a few months (although from my experience it may be hard to get any worse!).
